2021 was a year of changes for Futures Housing Group, and one of our biggest was our move to Futures House. We knew that we’d started to outgrow our previous head office at Asher House, and it was time for a new start bringing us into the heart of all our communities.

During our move we had a lot of furniture that wasn’t going to be needed in our new office, and as an organisation that prioritises sustainability, we didn’t want it going to waste. So, in collaboration with Collecteco, we donated approximately 150 pieces of furniture to good causes that serve communities, saving 6,254kg from going to a landfill and avoiding 5,897kg of CO2 emissions.

Our first good cause was Start2furnish, a community interest company that redistributes furniture and equipment to small businesses, charities and people in need. We also supported Special Needs Circle East Midlands. Lyn Blackman, Chair, said they couldn’t have opened without our help – “and now we are busy helping families with children with special needs!”.

In total, the value of the goods donated to our community through Collecteco is a whopping £27,265 – definitely a contribution to be proud of, sustaining our communities and our planet.

In addition to our work with Collecteco, we also worked with our team members to donate stationery and other items to schools, community centres, and charities like Hope City Furniture, which provides furniture to people who have been rehoused due to crisis.

We’re really glad to have made a difference to our world and are looking forward to sharing more about our sustainability strategy with you this year.
