Estate walkabouts explained
Estate walkabouts are a chance for our customers and neighbours to give us feedback about the places where they live and let us know what more we can do to help.
We have our own checks to complete on the walks too, but we're really keen to hear from everyone who lives in the communities around our 10,300 homes. We also invite partners from councils and other local organisations along, so we can all work together to support your community.
If you ever think "I wish Futures could help us to do this..." or "How do I get this sorted...?" then pop along to chat in person. No matter how big or small an issue may feel, you can ask us any questions. Come share an idea of something you'd like to see in your area, or even just come to say hello - we'd love to meet you!

What to expect
It might look like we're going for a gentle stroll on your street, but we promise we're not just stretching our legs!
Our Communities team completes the walkabouts. Each communities housing officer has a specific town or village they're responsible for and part of this responsibility is the walkabouts. The visits usually last a an hour or two, and the meeting point and streets to cover are always released along with the date and time. The officer will wait at the meeting point for any guests to come along, whether that's organisations or customers, before setting off.
The type of things they'll be checking on are:
- litter
- fly-tipping
- graffiti
- indoor and outdoor communal areas
- condition of hedges and boundary walls
- footpaths
- street signs
- green areas
- dog mess
- lighting
- overall general appearance.
If something needs further action, then the communities housing officer will raise this. We care about the community where our customers live and know it's important to live in a safe and comfortable environment - which is why we do these walkabouts.
It's also just as important that we work closely with partners, as understandably we're not responsible for everything that happens on your street. That's why you may also spot the police, fire service, community groups and local councils along too. So we can all work together to support your community the best we can.
