Are you ready to step into the amazing world of competitive bearding? Yes you read that right! Meet Futures customer Mick ‘the Chops’ Wallage, a competitive bearding multiple world title holder!
Back in June of 2004, Mick's life took an unexpected turn when a serious accident changed his life forever. Little did he know, this life-altering event would also introduce him to competitive bearding. From defending his world title to being a founder member of a charity-focused group, Mick's journey has not only changed his life but has made an amazing positive impact in his community.
Mick's journey into competitive bearding began when he discovered a TV program called ‘Whisker Wars’, which showcased the American competitive bearding scene. Despite needing to use a wheelchair at the time, Mick took an interest in this knowing he could grow an impressive beard even in his current situation. Drawing from his competitive nature, which previously led him to amateur bodybuilding, Mick decided to go all in on this unique path and hasn't looked back since.
Mick is currently preparing to head to Burghausen, Germany to defend his world title at the World Beard and Moustache Championships. This will be his second defence after winning the title for the first time in Austin, Texas back in 2017, which made it into the Guinness Book of Records for being the largest beard and moustache competition in history! Mick then successfully defended his title in 2019 in Antwerp, Belgium, and now he aims to secure his third world title!
One of the remarkable aspects of Mick's journey is his sponsorship by the American company, Mad Viking Beard Company, based in Pennsylvania. Mick says his ability to attend these global events wouldn’t be possible without the support of his sponsors. Mad Viking not only provides financial assistance but also serves as a supportive beard family that have helped Mick pursue his passion on the international stage.
Beyond his personal achievements, Mick is also the founder of Central Beardsmen, a charitable organisation focused on raising funds for various cancer charities. Since its launch in 2015, Central Beardsmen has organised an annual Beard and Moustache Championships called BEARDON, held at the Postmill Centre in South Normanton. Through their efforts, they have raised over £40,000 for cancer charities!
We wish Mick the best of luck as he heads to Germany on 9 June to defend his world title! We’ll keep you updated on his result and if you’re interested in helping the Central Beardsmen support great causes by attending or taking part in their BEARDON events contact Mick at mickthechopswallage@gmail.com, he would love to hear from you!
