We're always touched to hear positive stories about people in our communities giving back - and we were proud to be able to help someone make a real difference in Long Buckby recently.

The daughter of two Futures customers sadly lost her mum in 2021 to a heart attack, so she decided that she wanted to benefit the community and honour her parents' memory - who had lived happily for many years at Greenhill Court. She contacted us directly to ask if we could help get a defibrillator installed on the outside of the property for public use, and we were more than happy to support, with our repairs team in Daventry carrying out the installation and making sure that it's ready to go when it's needed.

A defibrillator gives a high energy shock to someone in cardiac arrest, which can be vital for saving a life alongside CPR and urgent medical attention. Having more defibrillators in the community means that more people will survive cardiac arrest, and get potentially life-saving treatment while the emergency services are on their way.

If you're with someone who goes into cardiac arrest, phone 999 and the emergency operator can tell you where the nearest defibrillator is, and guide you through using it. If you've not got one in the immediate vicinity, The British Heart Foundation advises calling 999, starting CPR and sending someone else to find the defibrillator nearest to your location and bring it to you. You can find more information on their website - just click here.

We'd like to share our thanks to our customers' daughter for turning a time of grief and sadness into something with the power to save lives in the community they lived happily in. If you've got a story about something great happening in your community, email communications@futureshg.co.uk
