Our team of apprentice operatives and their mentors joined forces to make-over a community centre in Daventry.
Team members from Futures spotted an opportunity to support the Southbrook Community Centre Committee in their bid to make the centre a nicer place to be. Conversations started at the beginning of the year with Karen and Leto from the committee and materials were sourced to support the makeover.
Over five days, the team worked together to deliver a functional and appealing outdoor space with the skills learnt through their apprenticeships.
Our carpenters made a damaged ramp safe to use, put down decking, fixed handrails and vents and made planters for the community to use. The decorators refreshed the outside woodwork and our apprentice electrician got stuck into fixing some wiring faults.
The interior of the community centre has recently been transformed so the building is now a fabulous space that can be used by our customers and local communities.
Leto, Chairman of the Southbrook Community Centre Committee said:
“After the last few years of lockdowns and separations, communities need to start coming together again to help each other and enjoy life. Thanks to Futures and VIY for the refurbishment both inside and out. The Southbrook Community Centre can now start to be the focal point of our community spirit. We can start to rebuild our sense of ownership and respect for the area we call home. We hope you'll join us for a hot drink and a bap on the go from the Community Centre!”
It has been great to get back into our communities to help with projects and we look forward to doing more that will benefit our customers.
