Futures Housing Group is celebrating National Apprenticeship Week! We're proud to work with Access Training to offer apprenticeships across our business, from our repairs team to our home choices department. Apprenticeships offer us a chance to invest in developing team members with the skills we need to support our customers and keep our organisation running while providing opportunities for people to start a new career, learn new skills and achieve a qualification.

This National Apprenticeship Week we're introducing you to some of our team members, so they can tell you what makes apprenticeships great.

Beth had worked as a cleaner at Futures for 4 years when she spotted an ad for an Apprenticeship within the repairs teams. She’d worked as a cleaner at various places since she was 16, and fancied a change. Beth felt there were limited options to progress within cleaning and learning a trade would open up more opportunities.

Beth works in a predominantly male environment which could have been difficult for her, but she’s taken to it really well and has built good relationships with everybody.

Working in construction gave Beth the opportunity to try out new things, and while the work can be challenging she’s not letting that stop her.

“I’m really enjoying trying out lots of different things, it’s given me the chance to decide what I want to do in the future. I love the job - every day is different” Beth.

Now 29, she is studying for her multi-trade level 2 qualification, which means she is turning her hand to everything from carpentry and joinery, painting and decorating, plastering, tiling, roofing and brickwork. The apprenticeship gives apprentices a range of skills and a taster of specific trades. Apprentices spend four days in the workplace learning on-the-job, and one day attending college doing coursework and practicing the skills they’ve learnt.
