This week we've signed up to an exciting new partnership with six other large and well-known housing associations to help improve the environmental performance of the outdoor spaces around our homes.
The new Green Spaces Advisory Board (GSAB) unites us with Peabody, Home Group, Notting Hill Genesis, Orbit, Clarion and Network Homes together with Ground Control, a carbon-neutral grounds maintenance company.
The Board aims to partner with developers, scientific and environmental groups to improve the contribution of the housing sector to tackling climate change. Our plans include producing open-source tools, sharing best practice for managing green spaces and developing models for green placemaking, carbon offsetting and biodiversity enhancement as well as supporting and encouraging residents to engage with the ‘green agenda’.
Housing has a huge environmental impact and as a sector that provides homes for around six million people in the UK we have a big responsibility to do all we can to help the UK’s journey to being carbon zero. So, as part of our commitment to sustainability, we’re so pleased to be joining forces with other housing associations to help ensure that the outdoor spaces around our homes are used to help improve both biodiversity and carbon capture. This kind of work also will create better environments for our customers and their communities to thrive in.
This is just one of a number of great new initiatives around sustainability that have already started and with our new sustainability strategy going to the Board for approval early next year we're off to a great start in doing our bit to help the planet.
