Volunteers from a housing association have raised more than £1,000 for a men’s health charity by growing moustaches for Movember.

Eleven men from Futures Housing Group, which manages around 9,800 properties across the East Midlands, grew moustaches and resisted the temptation to shave for the whole month of November, with sponsorship reaching £1,579.

The group was made up of a mix of executive directors, repairs operatives and office staff who sported moustache styles such as the handlebar, the horseshoe, the trucker, the regent, and the box car.

Leading the group was Marcus Keys, Futures Housing Group’s Business Growth and Transformation Director. He said: “We were overwhelmed by the total amount we raised for Movember, thank you to everyone who donated. It was great to see people from across the organisation join us and see it through to the end.

“We had a lot of fun doing it and comparing everyone’s efforts – we even mocked up a picture of us all as the Village People!

“I hope that the money and the awareness that we’ve raised can contribute to an important cause.”

The Movember charity aims to stop men dying prematurely from prostate and testicular cancers as well as tackling mental health and suicide prevention. Since 2003 Movember has helped fund more than 1,200 men’s health projects around the world.
