We had a great time last week visiting our friends at Blue Box Belper, a local community group supporting the residents of the Park Estate and the surrounding area, to combat loneliness and improve access to local services. Tim, our Chief Executive, joined the group for a festive edition of Cuppa, Cake and Chat, including a special appearance from a local singer, a classic Derbyshire fuddle and a chance to get to know some of the people behind our doors.

We’re proud of the work we do in our communities, and Blue Box is a great example of how we can work with partner organisations to get the most out of our community centres and add great value to the local community. Blue Box member Tom said:

“Blue Box gives people an opportunity to belong. Every individual person here matters. There’s lots of people on their own, but we know that there’s strength in community.”

After a difficult year, Blue Box has been using the Futures community centre on Alder Road to run their activities – everything from chairobics to crafts and even activities for young people, in collaboration with another local charity. Elle Wyke, Blue Box Trustee, said:

“A real highlight of this year has been working closely with Janene from Futures to keep our group up and running, and all the support we’ve had from her. It’s really important for our community to have somewhere on the doorstep where you can meet your neighbours, build friendships and connect.”

We’re looking forward to another year working out and about in our communities all across the East Midlands. Let us know if there’s something exciting happening in your area in 2025!
