Ryan Harrison, 22, from Ironville, has been in and out of work since leaving college as a fully qualified bench-joiner, but has struggled to find long-term employment.
But now, Ryan is gaining some valuable work experience with Futures to achieve his joinery ambitions.
“I was cutting people’s lawns and painting fences to keep me going and then I had to go back to the Job Centre again.”
“It was through the Job Centre that I got in touch with Futures' employment service and I was offered some work experience. I thought I’d see where it could take me.”
Leaps and bounds
Ryan has come on leaps and bounds since his first meeting with the service. His self-confidence is growing and he’s had some great feedback from the people he’s been working with.
As for the future, Ryan remains focussed on pursuing his joinery dream. He said: “I really want to get into my joinery, it’s a hands-on, manual job which keeps me occupied. It’s the type of work I like and there’s always something to do.
“While I’m with the Repairs team I’m hoping to add some site-joinery experience to the qualifications I already have. I can put this on my CV so I can show the next potential employer.”
