The World Cup starts this week, which can be a real time of celebration and community across the country and the world. We hope you’re looking forward to the matches, the songs and getting together with mates and loved ones to celebrate the beautiful game.
However, research shows that during major sporting events, like the World Cup, domestic abuse incidents rise significantly – regardless of the result – especially when emotions run high and there’s alcohol involved.
If you’re experiencing domestic abuse, or you’re worried that you might be at risk, you’re not alone. As a Futures customer, you have access to our dedicated Safeguarding and Domestic Abuse team, who can work with you to create a safety plan. Call us on 0300 456 2531 during office hours or email SafeguardingandDomesticAbuse@futureshg.co.uk to request support.
You can also find more information about keeping yourself safe on the domestic abuse page of our website.
If you’re concerned about your own behaviour, you can speak to Respect on 0808 802 4040 for advice.
We hope you have a safe, community-filled season, and don’t forget – if you need support, it’s out there. You don’t have to face domestic abuse alone.
