Futures is a great place to work. It's not just us saying that - we're one of just a few organisations to achieve the prestigious Investors in People Platinum standard.

Every one of our team members is helping us achieve our vision of providing quality homes and services for better futures for people and communities across the East Midlands. And we have a fantastic, positive and 'can do' culture which supports our people to deliver fantastic results.

We don't just provide homes - we support our customers and help them to thrive. To do this we also know that we all need to thrive in our jobs too. So we invest in our people to give them the skills, the tools and the flexibility they need to do a great job.

Read-on and browse the sections below to find out why so many of our teams are happy to be part of the Futures family as well as what we offer our employees.

Find out more about working at Futures

Futures has been providing affordable homes and support to people across the East Midlands for almost 20 years.

We're a housing association, sometimes called a 'registered provider of social housing'. This means that we're a not-for-profit organisation regulated by the Government.

We fund our work through the rent our customers pay, through grants and also through selling and renting homes on the open market. Any profits we make are simply reinvested in homes and in services for our customers - we have no shareholders.

We developed from the joining of two smaller housing associations - one working around Daventry in Northamptonshire and the other focused on the Amber Valley area in Derbyshire. We still have a lot of homes in those two areas but now work increasingly across the wider East Midlands.

You can read more about our history on this website as well as our new corporate plan which sets out our current priorities. Our annual review gives you a snapshot of our recent achievements, as well as some key facts and figures. We're also committed to being a responsible force for good and our environmental, social and governance (ESG) report explains how we do this.

We're ambitious. As long as people struggle to find and afford a good, secure home we will have more work to do. And we want to do more to help and support our existing customers.

Standing still is not an option. Our shared vision of improving lives for the communities that depend on us makes our work more rewarding and helps us work together passionately as a force for good.

We have just introduced a new set of values at Futures which have evolved from our previous MORE values. We now have our FACTS values.  They shape and inform both what we do and how we do it. FACTS stands for:

  • Flexible
  • Accountable
  • Customer-centric
  • Trusting
  • Supportive.

Everyone who works here is expected to put these values into action every day. We use them as a benchmark when we make decisions and to help evaluate how well each of us is contributing to making our vision of 'Great places, great services and great tomorrows' a reality.

We work hard to make sure that the people we recruit can show their commitment to our values too. We're committed to equality and inclusion and embrace diversity and have a very active group of staff working to improve our performance and policies in this area.

We also have a great, positive and supportive culture. We're proud to have Investors in People Platinum accreditation and our employee engagement scores show that people really enjoy working here and making a difference to the lives of our customers.

Our team members, their hard work and their commitment are central to our success. So we invest in our people to give everyone the support and opportunities they need to be their very best.

We're delighted that we are nationally recognised as a great employer through our Investors in People Platinum status.

We offer our employees an attractive and competitive package of rewards, recognition and benefits. This includes:

  • Defined contribution pension scheme.
  • Online and high street discounts.
  • Free parking at our workplaces.
  • Medical cash plan.
  • A 24/7 employee assistance programme offering free and confidential counselling, legal and financial support and practical advice.
  • Flexible working for most roles.
  • Career break options.
  • Generous annual leave with the option to buy or sell more.
  • Enhanced maternity and adoption pay.
  • A range of training and development opportunities which include professional sponsorship, coaching and mentoring, secondments and apprenticeships. Our ability to help people in their career development is also supported through Futures being joint-owner of Access Training, which provides high quality training, apprenticeships and recruitment support to business and individuals across the East Midlands.

Our team members also have a say in how the organisation is run and how we can improve through our 'One Futures Voice' programme. This brings representatives from across the organisation together to help shape our work and decisions.

We think Futures is a great place to work and our employees do too. But don't just take our word for it - why not listen to what they have to say?

As well as providing a great place to work for those with established careers, we also believe in helping people at the start of their working lives.

We are joint owners of a well established and highly regarded regional training provider, Access Training. We support our customers if they are struggling with finding a job or training that is right for them. Some of these customers end up joining our workforce.

We also invest in apprentices across the business - not just in practical, hands-on work in our repairs and maintenance teams but in roles as diverse as customer service, finance, IT and communications.

Visit our dedicated apprenticeship page to find out more and hear about some of our success stories.

We don't just give people's careers a kick start through apprenticeships though. We also run a graduate scheme giving new recruits a chance to work across and learn in a range of teams to boost their skills and explore their options.

We have a great culture at Futures and we believe in empowering our people to 'get on with it' and use their own skills, experience and judgement to do a great job. So it's vital we choose the right people.

We take a flexible approach to our recruitment - as we do with most of our work. So there isn't a standard, one-size-fits-all approach.

Whatever the role though we look for people who can show us that they can demonstrate our FACTS values:

  • Flexible
  • Accountable
  • Customer-centric
  • Trusting
  • Supportive

Our selection processes are designed to help us understand what people are capable of. So we will ask you questions about what you've done before or what you might do in an imaginary work situation to get a sense of your approach to solving problems. Giving real-life examples to this kind of question helps us to get a better understanding of your experience and abilities.

Interviews are a standard part of our recruitment. Depending on the job there may be just one or several. Some of these will need to be face-to-face but others, especially early in the process, might be on the phone or on video calls. We want you to shine at interviews so please come prepared and try to stay relaxed. You getting to know us and find out about the job is also important so there will be a chance for you to ask questions along the way.

For an increasing number of roles there may be some kind of assessment. This might be a task, a test or a presentation for example - either prepared in advance or that we ask you to do on the day. Again we want everyone to do their best and simply show what they can do or explain their approach or understanding of a specialist area of work.

If you're successful we'll work hard to help you settle into your new job and learn about Futures. If you're not successful and would like some feedback, just let us know.

We're always on the look out for new talent that we can bring into the Futures family. As part of this we run a two year graduate scheme in partnership with the GEM programme. Click here to find out more and hear from two of our recent recruits.

We're proud to be an organisation that is already welcoming and inclusive, which is reflected in conversations we have every day with team members, customers, and our external stakeholders.
