Futures employment support programme nominated for industry award
An East Midlands housing association has been shortlisted for a prestigious award in recognition of its achievement helping its customers into work.
Futures Gateways, part of the 9,100-home Futures Housing Group, has received the nomination in the ‘Excellence in Employment Skills & Training’ category at the Tpas awards. The innovative scheme helps customers access job opportunities, gain qualifications and increase their confidence.
In the past year, it has worked with 89 customers, 16 of whom have been supported into long-term roles. A total of 21 have received job offers and a further 61 have secured a job interview. In addition, 173 job skills sessions have been delivered to improve customer opportunities and their quality of life.
“We’re delighted with this nomination, which acknowledges our investment in the communities in which we work,” said Suki Jandu, Group Customer Experience Director. “We’re proud to nurture the skills and talent of customers, and to be able to give them the tools to reach their potential.
“The initiative also helps local firms find skilled people who are work-ready, allowing us to play a vital role in supporting the local economy while also helping customers maintain their homes and tenancies thanks to a stable income.”
Futures Gateways offers volunteering opportunities, work experience placements with local firms, support with job hunting and applications, apprentices and training. Its employment support programme helps customers prepare for their first role or a return to work; perhaps after long term sick leave, career re-training, child raising or time as a carer.
Jenny Ball, Employability Officer, said: “It has been great developing Futures Gateways from scratch and seeing the results. We are able to offer a bespoke service to our customers to help them develop at their pace, from developing their confidence through volunteering then taking the next step to work experience, or going from a temporary to a permanent position.
“What we do also helps them secure the full-time jobs they’re looking for. It’s great being able to support our customers on their Futures Gateways journey and get to their end goal and help them maintain their tenancies with us.”
As well as running Futures Gateways, the affordable housing provider co-owns Access Training which provides on-the-job training across the East Midlands. The award-winning training organisation, which has more than 30 years of success at helping people into employment, has 500 learners on apprenticeships and 120 school pupils undertaking vocational training.
They are able to offer Futures Gateways customers the training they need, such as the up coming joint venture of Employability Course running in Ripley from 30th January.
The Tpas awards celebrate and reward the people, ideas and organisations that shape the tenant involvement work. They are run by England’s leading tenant engagement experts.
The central region awards will be held on March 3 2017 in Solihull. Winners will go onto the national finals later in the year.
